Fellowship Bible Church - 05/06 - 05/07/2017

This weekend, we wrapped up our generosity series, The Flow of Everything, and we looked at what could be possible if all the church joined together to bless our community and our world with what we have. We also had our annual event, Sharefest, where we partnered with more than 30 churches in the city to bless area schools, the Boys & Girls Club, and the Topeka Rescue Mission by doing much-needed landscaping work and projects. It is always a beautiful picture of the church in action.

For our singing, we focused on how abundantly and graciously God has provided for our redemption through the cross. We concluded our services by celebrating communion together, remembering the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf. He has done great things for us!

Here's what we sang together this weekend:

Pre-Service - "Worthy of Your Name" [Passion Worship Band]
"It Is Finished" [The Modern Post/Dustin Kensrue]
"I Stand Amazed" [Charles Hutchison Gabriel]
"Lord I Need You" [Passion Worship Band]
"Jesus Paid It All" [Traditional, Alex Nifong, Passion Worship Band]

It was a great weekend together! I am excited about what the Lord is doing in the Church in Topeka, and it is awesome to be a part of it through Fellowship.

I hope you had a great weekend!

in the Son,

Bill

Fellowship Service Recap - 09/10 - 09/11/16

This week was the first of our new series, Awakening, where we are looking at the gospel for all of life as we receive it, live it, and give it away. In this first message, Joe shared about the declarations of the gospel–what it says about God, and what it says about us. It was a beautiful reminder of how the gospel changes our relationship with God, and brings us into fellowship with Him and with each other.

Here's what we sang together:

Pre-service - "Grace Alone" [Dustin Kensrue/The Modern Post]
"It is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue/The Modern Post]
"Jesus!" [Citizens & Saints]
"Jesus Messiah" [Chris Tomlin]
"O Praise The Name (Anástasis)" [Hillsong]

It was a great start to the series. The team did a great job, and it was a very celebratory weekend with the words we were singing, as we celebrated the gospel and how Jesus came to our rescue through His death, burial, and resurrection.

I hope you have a great week!

in the Son,

Bill

Fellowship Service Recap - 06/25 - 06/26/16

This weekend, we celebrated and dedicated our building expansion together. We spent our time emphasizing what we come together to do in this space on a weekly basis: declare the greatness of God, thank God for His goodness, respond to the grace of God, seek guidance from God, and reach the next generation for God. It is a special weekend in the life of our church, as we have seen God do great things over the course of our short history, and we also look forward to what He will continue to do in and through us.

Here's what we sang together this weekend:

Pre-service: "Lord Have Mercy" [Brady Toops]
"It Is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue / The Modern Post]
"Jesus!" [Citizens & Saints]
"Good, Good Father" [Pat Barrett, Anthony Brown / Housefires]
"O Praise The Name (Anástasis)" [Hillsong]

It was a great weekend together. The songs we sang carried the themes of God's unique worthiness of our worship, His name being above all others, His goodness to us, and His faithfulness.

Fellowship Service Recap - 05/14 - 05/15/16

We had another great weekend together as we looked at the decision of a Christ-follower to have a poor attitude or to walk in gratitude for what Christ has done for us! This is pretty late, so I'm going to keep it short!

Here's what we sang together:

Pre-Service: "Lead Me To The Cross" [Brooke Fraser, Hillsong]
"It Is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue, The Modern Post]
"Jesus!" [Citizens & Saints]
"Be Thou My Vision" [Traditional]
"O Come To The Altar" [Elevation Worship]
"O Praise The Name (Anástasis)" [Hillsong]

FBC Service Recap - Easter 2016

Jesus is Risen!

Here's what we sang together to celebrate the resurrection of Christ:

"He is Jesus" [Heath Balltzglier, Matthew Melton, Steve Fee]
"Christ the Lord is Risen" [Charles Wesley, Bill Horn]
"It is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue]

"Give Me Jesus" [African American Spiritual, arr. by Fernando Ortega]
"You Have Overcome" [Bill Horn, Erik Oldberg]
"O Praise the Name (Anástasis)" [Marty Sampson, Benjamin Hastings, Dean Ussher]
"Jesus!" [Zach Bolen, Brian Eichelberger]

This weekend, we had seven services, and our team stepped up and did an awesome job serving the church. It was a powerful celebration of the life that we have because of the resurrection of Jesus. As the Bible says in Ephesians 2, "We are made alive together with Him." Specifically, we focused on the fully accomplished work of redemption through the cross of Christ, and the power and victory and life that we have because of Him. He has done it all, and He alone is worthy of all glory and honor and praise! He is risen!

FBC Service Recap - 02/13 - 02/14/16

This weekend, we studied Acts 13-14, as Pastor Joe shared about why God has chosen to use the Church as the main vehicle for His mission on this earth. He taught about Paul and Barnabas' first missionary journey, and detailed how the gospel advanced through them despite resistance and suffering.

Here are the songs that we sang together:

Pre-service - "She Must and Shall Go Free" [Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken, William Gadsby]
"Sing to the King" [Charles Silvester Horne, Billy Foote]
"Jesus!" [Zach Bolen, Brian Eichelberger]
"Son of God" [Tim Neufeld, Jon Neufeld, Ed Cash, Gordon Cochran]
"God With Us" [Leslie Jordan, Jason Ingram]
"It Is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue]

We had a great weekend together, singing songs about the Church and about the redemption that is in Christ alone. I've had Romans 3:23-24 on my heart and mind this week, and this weekend seemed to align in so many ways with what Paul wrote there:

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus..." (ESV)

We have been bought with the precious blood of Jesus, and adopted as sons and daughters, and brought together as the body of Christ–the Church. We focused on the hope that is in Christ alone, Christ's unique worth as our sole source of salvation, the fact that God is with us, and His finished work on the cross for our redemption. I never get tired of signing those truths!

Have a great week!

In the Son,

Bill

FBC Service Recap - 1/9 - 1/10/16

This weekend, we began our new series through the book of Acts, Mission Possible. For the message, Pastor Joe shared from Acts 1-2 about how to live in the power of the Spirit.

Here are the songs we sang this weekend:

Pre-service - "Come All You Weary" [Thrice]
"It Is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue]
"Hosanna" [Brooke Ligertwood]
"I Will Go" [Tim Neufeld, Jon Neufeld, Allen Salmon]
"Jesus Paid It All" [John T. Grape, Elvina M. Hall, add. chorus by Alex Nifong]
"Your Great Name" [Michael Neale, Krissy Nordhoff]

It was a great weekend together, despite being super cold outside. During the pre-service countdown we sang Thrice's "Come All You Weary," which is a favorite of mine. It speaks to the rest that we find in Jesus, and it set us up really well to start the service off with "It Is Finished," which is a powerful anthem about the finished work of Christ for our redemption. I absolutely love the declaration of that song. In all, it was a encouraging weekend together, and a great start to our journey through the book of Acts. Our team did a great job, and we had a lot of fun making it all come together.

I hope you had a great weekend, and that you stay warm!

in the Son,

Bill

Service Recap - 11/28 - 11/29/15 - Fellowship Bible Church

This week, we concluded our Rebuild series as Joe shared about our reward in Christ and the fruit of faithfulness. For our singing, we wanted to focus mainly on our ultimate reward in Christ, which is redemption and eternal life. This reward is the beginning of new life for us, and it is out if this new life that we can be a blessing to our city.

Here are the songs we sang together this weekend:

"Before The Throne" [Charitie Lees Bancroft, Vicki Cook, arr. by The Modern Post]
"It Is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue, Brian Eichelberger]
"Hosanna" [Brooke Ligertwood]
"Beautiful" [Phil Wickham]

It was a great weekend of worship together. We had to roll with some last-minute changes this week, but our team did a great job as always, and the weekend after Thanksgiving is always a special and warm time to gather together as the church and think of all that Christ has done for us. I guess you could say that we all come ready to be thankful!

I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving!

in the Son,

Bill

Songs We Sing - 10/17 - 10/18 - Fellowship Bible Church

This week we concluded our Unstuck series as we looked at the often uncomfortable subject of "Fun." Joe shared how we can celebrate and have fun because of our joy and delight in the Lord. He pointed out how the entire Jewish calendar revolved around the concept of celebrating the work of the Lord for them. We can have fun in a way that both celebrates the work of the Lord and deepens our relationships with our family and our brothers & sisters in Christ.

Here are our songs from this weekend:

"Hosanna (Praise is Rising)" [Paul Baloche, Brenton Brown]
"In Tenderness" [W. Spencer Walton, Adoniram J. Gordon, Nate Garvey]
"Lord, I Need You" [Jesse Reeves, Kristian Stanfill, Matt Maher, Christy Nockels, Daniel Carson]
"Great Are You Lord" [Jason Ingram, Leslie Jordan, David Leonard]
"It Is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue]

We had a great weekend of worship together. Our team did a great job, and all of our songs celebrated and reflected on God as our strength and our song, as our Father, and as our redemption and life. "It Is Finished" is fixed as one of my favorite anthems. It confidently declares the finished work of God for our salvation, and almost brings me to shouting for joy for what He has done for us. I don't think I will ever grow tired of the truth in that song (although I might grow tired from singing it–I have a hard time holding back when I sing those words!).

It was great to be back after a weekend off. I absolutely love worshiping with my church family here, and I love experiencing how God is at work in His Church.

This week, I pray that God reminds you of His saving work on your behalf! It is Finished!

In the Son,

Bill

Songs We Sing - 08/29 - 08/30/15 - Fellowship Bible Church

This week, we concluded our Family of Tomorrow series, with Pastor Joe sharing about leaving a legacy of prayer, love, and forgiveness for our families. He pointed to the story of Jacob, Esau, and Joseph as an example of how things can change in later generations if we demonstrate those things in our families today. It was a great picture of legacy.

Here are our songs from this weekend:

"It is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue]
"Hosanna" [Brooke Ligertwood]
"One Thing Remains (Your Love Never Fails)" [Brian Johnson, Jeremy Riddle, Christa Black]
"It is Well" [Philip Paul Bliss, Todd Fields]

We shortened our services to give extra time for our people to join small groups if they hadn't yet, and it was refreshing to change up the order a bit and try something new and different with our services. It was a very good weekend of worship together. Our team did a solid job, and we sang some of our church's favorite songs together. It was a beautiful weekend.

I hope you had a great weekend of worship!

in the Son,

Bill

Songs We Sing - 08/15 - 08/16/15 - Fellowship Bible Church

This weekend we continued our "Family of Tomorrow" series, with our Pastor Joe sharing about . He led our congregation in answering the question, "What does my family need from me?"

Here are our songs from this weekend:

"This is Amazing Grace" [Josh Farro, Phil Wickham, Jeremy Riddle]
"It is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue]
"Lamb of God" [Andi Rozier, Meredith Andrews]
"He is Jesus" [Heath Balltzglier, Matthew Melton, Steve Fee]
"Jesus" [Zach Bolen, Brian Eichelberger]

We had another great weekend of worship together. This was the first weekend we sang "He is Jesus" in our weekend services, and I think it connected with our church family, and is one that we will continue to sing together. We also continued teaching "It is Finished," which continues to grow on me as one of the best songs of victory that we sing together. I am consistently moved by both of these songs, and I'm thankful for the opportunity to sing them together.

Our team did a great job, and the worship center was full of people, so it was an exciting and encouraging weekend of worship together! I'm excited about what the Lord is doing in our church family, and about our future together!

I hope you had a great weekend of worship, too!

in the Son,

Bill

Songs We Sing - 08/08 - 08/09/15 - Fellowship Bible Church

This weekend we continued our "Family of Tomorrow" series, with our Family Pastor, Brian Tryhus, sharing about relationships within our families. He led our congregation in answering the question, "What does my family need from me?"

Here are our songs from this weekend:

"In Tenderness" [W. Spencer Walton, Adoniram J. Gordon, Nate Garvey, arr. by Citizens & Saints]
"It is Finished" [Dustin Kensrue]
"Be Thou My Vision" [Ancient Irish Hymn]
"Great Are You Lord" [Jason Ingram, Leslie Jordan, David Leonard]
"Because of Your Love" [Phil Wickham]

We had a great weekend of worship together. We sang songs that primarily looked at how God loved us first and sought us out. We also looked at the reality that He made us and saved us (remade us), and adopted us as His own sons and daughters, which all gives us a picture of how we ought to love one another in our families and beyond. We introduced Dustin Kensrue's "It is Finished," which is a song about the finished work of Christ for us. The chorus is the biggest section of the song, and it sings,

"It is finished, He has done it/ Let your weary heart rejoice/ Our redemption is accomplished/ Raise a shout with ragged voice/ And go bravely into battle/ Knowing He has won the war/ It is finished, lift your head/ And weep no more!"

I love the powerful declaration of Christ's victory in this song, and it moves me as I am reminded of the freedom and salvation that He has won for me. He has done it all! I look forward to this song taking a deeper root in our congregation and giving us courage to live out our faith because it is finished!

Despite some instrument challenges, I walked away from this weekend very encouraged. I was encouraged by our times of singing together as we remembered, celebrated, and proclaimed the goodness of God in the gospel. And I was also encouraged by what I heard from our congregation, and how they are being impacted by our worship arts ministry. God is faithful, and I am humbled to be a part of His work here.

I hope you had a great weekend of worship!

In the Son,

Bill
